Our Mission and Vision

Renewing the city

Our mission is to renew the city with a culture informed by historical perspective and invigorated by spiritual hope for the common good.

Our vision is a city renewed by a cultural vigor that can sustain it, led by an ennobled generation which humbly welcomes, stewards, and passes on a theological tradition of civility, eloquence, and wisdom

A city study forum

The Center for Renaissance and Reformation is a city study forum which serves as a hub for thoughtful citizens who see our careers as a unique calling and who desire to integrate a biblical worldview into our lives and our work.

This movement represents diverse professional and cultural involvement. Some of us are artists. Some are writers. Some are educators. Some are clergy. Some are laypersons. Some are in business. Some provide labor. Some provide leadership. Some are engineers and technicians. Some are dreamers and visionaries. But as stakeholders in the city, we all seek ways to better understand the good news on a deeper level and to bear witness to it in the life of our cities.

We are not our own. We belong to someone and something much greater than ourselves. We walk in faith that, by God’s grace, we will begin to experience and extend the transforming hospitality of the river whose streams make glad the city of God.

Welcoming all to a tradition of civility, eloquence, and theological wisdom

The Center for Renaissance and Reformation seeks to sponsor research and educational initiatives that bring long-range, forward-thinking analysis to bear on personal renewal, cultural renaissance, and institutional reformation. These include:

reading and discussion groups that help citizens thoughtfully consider their life purpose, their community’s well-being, and the multi-generational influence of cultural institutions.

research and development services for churches, educational and cultural institutions, ministries and other non-profit organizations to increase their effectiveness and capacity with human capital resources and qualitative research.

consulting, seminars and forums that encourage churches, schools, museums, and other cultural institutions to better incorporate the insights, creativity, and energies of young professionals, while also connecting young adults with seasoned community leaders who are willing to serve as their mentors.

a library of reports, books, study materials, and Internet resources that challenge our citizens to address contemporary problems by mining the wisdom of the Christian tradition, with special attention to the Renaissance and Reformation.

Our hope is that through these research initiatives and projects, we will contribute to the flourishing of our culture, drawing from the creative resources of the past and present to faithfully meet the challenges of the city that is to come – a city with foundations, whose builder and maker is God.
